To a US Senator: support the PRO Act
Restore card-check, end captive-audience meetings, require first-contract arbitration, override state right-to-work laws. The most consequential pro-labor legislation since the 1930s.
Personalize at minimum the open and one body paragraph. Reference your own work or a workplace you know if possible — first-person voice carries weight on this issue. If your senator is undecided or formally opposed, your letter is especially valuable; if they’re already a co-sponsor, thanks are appropriate but not the highest-value advocacy.

I’m writing as a constituent in [city/town] to ask you to support the Protecting the Right to Organize Act and to advance it for floor consideration this session.
The PRO Act is the most consequential pro-labor legislation seriously considered in the United States since the 1930s. The substantive case for it is straightforward: union density in the US has fallen from 35% of workers in the 1950s to under 10% today, even as polling on union approval has reached multi-decade highs. The gap between approval and density is the gap that the PRO Act is designed to close.
The bill would, in concrete terms:
- End captive-audience meetings, which most successful anti-union campaigns rely on.
- Restore card-check union recognition, eliminating the gap between organizing and election that has defeated most modern union campaigns.
- Require first-contract arbitration when employers stall good-faith negotiation — the structural fix for the half of newly certified unions that currently never reach a first contract.
- Override state right-to-work laws in the private sector.
- End permanent replacement of striking workers, restoring the practical meaning of the right to strike.
- Apply the strict ABC test to misclassification, narrowing the platform-economy escape valve that has written large categories of workers out of federal labor protection.
- Impose meaningful civil penalties for unfair labor practices, replacing a system in which violations have been an accepted cost of business since the 1980s.
